The missionaries spent a week translating for the doctors and nurses of Operation Smile. Each day about 30 or more surgeries were done. Because of my nursing background I got to do a few things and could have gone into the operating room to observe the surgeries but did not make it. The Operation Smile volunteers raved about the support from the missionaries, saying that without their translation abilities it would not have been possible to be effective with the patients and their parents.
Although the hospital conditions were very basic it was wonderful to see the difference these surgeries will make in the life of these children.
