The US Embassy - July 4th

We are the assistant Wardens for the Mission ... so we were invited guests to a celebration of Independence Day at the US Embassy here in Phnom Penh. [You might guess that the 4th of July is a non-event in Cambodia ... as is Christmas ... Thanksgiving and most other US holidays]. Anyhow, we got to hear the new Ambassador of the United States to Cambodia and the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia give short speeches, saw the US Marine Color Guard post the colors and hear a video of Hillary Clinton talking about America. There was an ice scupture of the Statue of Liberty that was melting fast ... we thought her arm was going to fall off ... but it didn't. We were treated to a great buffet dinner. All in all it was a fun evening with President and Sister Smedley and a few hundred other guests.
